our story

Growing up in Thailand, Jeab and Sonia were constantly surrounded by food—they would spend a lot of time with loved ones around a dinner table. After moving to the U.S. with their three children, they quickly realized that they missed some form of community. That’s when in 2002, they opened their first restaurant in Sleepy Hollow, NY. This space became more than just a restaurant. Thai Garden served as a welcoming space for their children, friends, and customers.

Thai Garden was where the children spent the most time with their parents. They would do their homework, play games, run around, and help with the restaurant—it was like their second home.

Since Thai Garden first opened its doors, it’s been praised by multiple food critics—the most notable being a New York Times review by M.H. Reed, who rated Thai Garden as Very Good and complimented, “In appearance and taste, the dishes at Thai Garden are as brilliant and exciting as the décor. ... The flavors of the dishes live up to the attractive presentation.”

In 2008, Jeab and Sonia decided to open their second location in Orangeburg, NY. For a while, Jeab managed the Sleepy Hollow location and Sonia managed the one in Orangeburg. In 2009, they closed their original location in order to ensure that the family could spend more time together and focus their collective energies into one place.

As a family-owned and operated business, the kids grew up working various positions in the restaurant. Since 2002, they have been interacting with Thai Garden’s customers alongside their parents and because of this, our long-standing customers have quite literally seen the Sittisawassakul children grow up.

Because of the genuine and nurturing relationships between our family and food, customers come back again and again through the years. Jeab and Sonia have created a little community space where family, friends, and customers continue to be surrounded by heartwarming, homemade Thai food. We all hope that you can be a part of this too!
